Abstract

Abstract: The aim of our study is to compare the relationship among cyberbullying, cyber victimization, daily use of social media and academic achievements. The research was conducted on Anatolian Vocational High School students in 5 different provinces. The results of the questionnaire collected from 111 students were evaluated and significant relationships were sought between the variables. The candidates were asked about the duration of their daily activities in social media and computer games, their academic achievements and some demographic characteristics. In addition, cyber bullying and victimization scales developed by Korkmaz (2016) were applied by making some adjustments according to the concept of social media. The obtained data were analyzed using the SPSS program. As a result of the research, a high-level relationship was found between cyber victimization and cyberbullying. In addition, it has been observed that those who spend a long time on social media are exposed to more cyberbullying. A few scan data were obtained from the study. In this way, it can also give an idea about how much time young people spend daily in virtual environments and games. Laws alone are not enough to prevent cyberbullying and victimization. Young people at high school level need to be trained especially in social media literacy. Daily usage times should be reviewed and parents should be informed about the problems encountered.
